Job Title: RN - L&D/Postpartum/Antepartum

(Only QUALIFIED Healthcare Professionals accepted) Labor & Delivery-RN - General job duties and types of procedures required:
L&D RN with circulating experience and recovery experience. Must be able to place cytotec, run pitocin, manage magnesium sulfate, and oversee a patient with an epidural (not all at once). We also do VBACs so must have experience with VBACs and pitocin. We have a very good success rate. This person must also have mother|baby couplet care experience. A plus would be grower feeder NICU experience and pediatrics. Although the focus will be L&D. 900-1000 births per month.

Equipment utilized in the unit|dept:
We use LMS for our central monitoring and documentation during labor. We use McKesson for our postpartum charting and we are still on paper in the C|S room with the exception of medications. We have our own C|S room with attached Level II NICU. We occassionally use cervical ripening balloons that are placed by the physician and we have also used bakri balloons for hemorrhage. We do glucose point of care testing for our moms and babies.

Required skills and minimum years of experience:
3 yrs minimum with proven track record. Also, previous travel experience a must.

Specific licensures and certifications|registrations required:
RN licensure in the state of NE, BLS, NRP and ACLS.

Shift or schedule requirements:
Our shifts are 0300 to 1500 and 1500 to 0300. Will never work alone. We always have two L&D nurses and a charge nurse who is most of the time a L&D nurse. Call is not required by the traveler, but will be asked to help fill in if needed. We do have on call, but we do not require the travelers to take call. Weekends are required and usually is every 3rd, but may be more often. Holidays are also required, but not every holiday.

Floating to over units|departments:
We are a combined women's and children's unit. Staff float to NICU and peds. Travlers are given assignments based on their skill level.

Bed size|number of rooms for this unit|dept:
We have 4 L&D, 2 Triage, 1 C|S, and 11 Postpartum rooms. The Level II NICU is located in the center of the unit and is licensed for 8 beds. The pediatrics unit is 10-11 beds.

Nurse to patient ratio of this unit:
L&D- Usually 1:1 or 1:2. We really try to follow the AWHONN guidelines, but there are times when a nurse may have to take two pitocin patients that are not in active labor. Magnesium sulfate are always 1:1 while in labor and usually for the forst 12 hours after labor. The charge nurses will call in extra staff if needed and someone is available.
Postpartum- Usually one nurse to 3 couplets.

Tell us about the unit|department specific training and orientation program:
The traveler can expect to get two to three shifts of orientation. We then evaluate. The computer and documentation is probably the most difficult. We also have a clinical coordinator who can work with the traveler.
