Job Title: Ultrasound Technologist

(Only QUALIFIED Healthcare Professionals accepted) General - General job duties and types of procedures required:
Perform ultrasound exams in inpatients, outpatients, and emergency patients in the hospital. General radiology department ultrasound exams, i.e. abdomen, pelvic, OB, vascular, small parts, aspirations, biopsies, thoracentesis, paracentesis. OB and vascular are occasional, mostly on call.

Equipment utilized in the unit|dept:
Philips IU22 ultrasound equipment. McKesson PACS and RIS. Pyxis

Required skills and minimum years of experience:
2-5 years experience as an ultrasound technologist. Ability to competently perform the above type of exams, and to be able to work independently.

Specific licensures and certifications|registrations required:
RDMS required. RVT preferred (need to get RVT within 1 year of employment. BLS

Shift or schedule requirements:
4 10-hour shifts plus call. The employee may work alone during normal business hours as well as working alone on call. The employee will be required to take 1-2 weeknights of call as well as a call rotation with 3 other people for weekends, usually one weekend per month. On-call shifts include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Floating to over units|departments:
There is no floating required at this time. We do have a Breast Center that may require floating as an ultrasound tech some time in the future, but not now.

Bed size|number of rooms for this unit|dept:
Two ultrasound rooms plus portable exams for inpatients and emergency patients.

Unit|department specific training and orientation program:
Department orientation consists of a tour of Imaging Services, training on the RIS and PACS, and orientation to the ultrasound equipment. The candidate will need to prove competency on all of the required exams. The radiologists will give feedback on that competency. Orientation and training also consists of how to work within the teleradiology environment - how to send images, how to connect with on-site and off-site radiologsits. Technologists do have access to an on-site radiologist; however, it will also be necessary to speak with radiologists who are in Denver

Additional Comments:
It is not a requirement that the ultrasound technologist present cases directly to the radiologist. The technologist is expected to scan by approved protocols, submit images to the radiologists for review, and then go to the next patient. It is also a requirement that the ultrasound technologist NOT give out any results. Only radiologists provide results. It is expected that the ultrasound technologist work independently and stay within the scheduled timeline for each exam.
