The Emergency Room Nurse is responsible for rapidly assessing and collaboratively providing emergency care to medical and trauma patients in the Emergency Department.

2. Equipment utilized in the unit|dept. (Is there computerized charting, medication systems, etc.)
MedHost - charting
Omnicell - electronic med despensing unit
Phillips Central Monitors

3. Required skills and minimum years of experience.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with current NH RN license required. BSN preferred. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications required. CPI certification preferred. Looking for experienced emergency room nurses – two to three years ED experience required for this position. Previous experience in resource|charge role and MedHost preferred.

4. Specific licensures and certifications|registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)
BLS, ACLS, PALS and TNCC. Our Franklin ER we need to have our ER RN's have NRP

5. Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?)
day|evening 36 hrs|week (all 11a-11p shifts) – Lakes
call is not required
every other weekend is required
Never work alone

6. Floating to other units|departments. (If so, to which units|departments?)
None, expection potential to respond to a code blue on another unit - we would most likelyu send one of our own ER nurses, but cannot rule it out entirely

7. Bed size|number of rooms for this unit|dept.
Lakes: 16 Bed ED with 4 hallway beds and 5 overflow "quick care" rooms, approx 25,000 visits per year (seasonal department June-August volume is on par for 40,0000 visits a year
Franklin: 8 beds with 2 hallway beds, approx 10,0000 visits per year

8. Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only)

3:1, depends on acuity (trauma, etc. is 1:1)

9. Dress Code:
Professional looking scrubs

10. Tell us about the unit|department specific training and orientation program.
a. We have a full time educator specific to our department who will do all paperwork with the traveler. Typically they get 2-3 12|hr shifts (depending on the contract and what they require). There are competencies needed to be demonstrated (ex: ED staff must watch them start 3 IVs and sign them off) in addition to some Net Learning modules. We give them time to complete this online learning during their orientation and it essentially covers the hospital|department policies that are most critical for them to be aware of.
