Job description

Carries out an aggressive program of assessing and improving DNFB practices across the entire facility. Works diligently with department heads, supervisors, staff, coders, and patient accounting personnel to continuously improve with the simultaneous goals of enhancing reimbursement, speeding up cash flow, and maximizing fiscal compliance. Performs other duties as assigned.

Has primary responsibility for the DNBF and works closely with Clinical managers and directors to insure established goals for DNFB are met monthly.
Possesses and maintains a broad-based understanding of clinical operations across diverse hospital and clinic organizations.
Reviews for accurate dates and assists in reviewing for accurate patient type assignment.
Assists in responding to requests from business office for verification of dates and discharge status
Locates charts of accounts on DNFB report.
Possesses and maintains a good understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and third party payer mechanisms and the role that coding and charging play in those clinical operations.

Demonstrates a clear grasp of the important distinction between a correctly coded charge master and the physical process of departmental charging.

Demonstrates and maintains a strong understanding of the Medicare outpatient code editor rules and the impact of same upon coding and charging practices.
Troubleshoots and resolves issues related to patient revenue cycle, making recommendations to assist staff in resolving discharge date issues.
Responds to clinical department requests for changes/corrections/additions in a timely and thorough manner.
Provides staff and/or physician education.
Performs periodic audits to ensure ongoing compliance with billing and charging protocols.
