Job Title: Medical Assistant

(Only QUALIFIED Healthcare Professionals accepted) Clinical Assistant and/or Medical Assistant - Medical Assistant needed for 5-week assignment in Albemarle, NC!
The Clinical Assistant I is responsible for assisting physician and/or mid level providers with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. Assists with appointment scheduling and maintaining medical record. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the practice services. Maintains clinical and professional competency as appropriate to the ages, developmental stages, and special needs of the patients served. Conveys a positive image of the practice. May be assigned to a specific medical specialty to help with patient care related to that specialty.

Performs clinical functions, including but not limited to:
1. Models CHS core values of caring, commitment, integrity and teamwork to internal and external (i.e. patient, family, physician and team member) customers.
2. Records patient’s general condition. Take and record vital signs and patient's height and weight.
3. Assists physicians and mid-level providers with examinations, diagnostic procedures and treatments. Perform clinical functions including but not limited to:
• Allergy shots and injections/immunizations.
• Venipuncture, vital signs and approved laboratory test as required.
• May be required to assist with collection of specimens of body fluids such as urine, and blood for laboratory testing. Completes lab requisitions and prepares specimens for pick-up.
• Adheres to infection control/ safety guidelines, OSHA, and CLIA standards and maintains BCLS certification.
• Ensures that all ordered diagnostic tests are tracked and logged and that the physician is presented with test results for review and follow-up.
4. Assists with patient inquiries for prescription refills, appointment scheduling and referral authorization as needed.
5. Appropriately documents all patient care/ interactions in patient medical record.
6. Promotes wellness by proving patient education materials and communication physician advice instructions.
7. Routinely inspects all emergency medical equipment, diagnostic testing equipment and all other medical and surgical instruments and equipment to ensure they are being properly cleaned, maintained and are in good word order.
8. Maintains stock and sample medications that are needed for patient care in the appropriate manner. Secures and maintains inventory and administration records/ logs of controlled substances.
9. Assists other staff members as requested.
10. Responds quickly to patient medical status and initiates the emergency response system as necessary.
11. Completion of CLIA approved waived laboratory tests and proactive specific diagnostic testing.
12. Cooperates with other departments for the benefit of the total office. Promotes and contributes positively to the teamwork of the department by volunteering to assist co-workers, contributing ideas, and problem solving with co-workers.

1. Maintains an adequate inventory level and orders pharmacy/medical supplies from the appropriate department or vendor in order to facilitate smooth operations.
2. May be required to obtain and maintain various patient consents, authorizations and referral tracking information.
3. Functions as a member of the CHS team. Adheres to CHS and departmental policies for communication, confidentiality (HIPAA), safety, education and the system of integrity.
4. Maintains clean working environment including exam rooms, patient care areas and work areas throughout the workday.
5. Serves as floater to assist in the other areas of the practice to assist in providing efficient care.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
7. Participates in staff meetings, in-services and continuing education for job related growth.

Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending and lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighting up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal ranges. Must read, write, and speak English fluently. Critical thinking and ability to concentrate. Must be able to respond quickly to change in patient and/or unit/clinic conditions.

High school graduate or equivalent required. In addition, must possess one of the following:
1. Completion of LPN program with current, valid license
2. Valid CMA/RMA designation
3. Formalized training in one of the following areas:
a. Completion of accredited Medical Assistant Program
b. Graduate of accredited RN program, board-eligible, non-licensed
c. EMT or paramedic program
d. Structured military training which is clinical in nature per DD214

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to age specific issues and data reflective of the patient’s status. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the following age groups:
Neonate Infant Child Adolescent Adult Geriatric

Will limit access to protected health information (PHI) to the information reasonably necessary to do the job.
Will share information only on a need to know basis for work purposes.
Access to verbal, written and electronic PHI for this job has been determined based on job level and job responsibility within the organization. Computerized access to PHI for this job has been determined as described above and is controlled via user ID and password.

All medical equipment and supplies required by the practice including blood pressure manometer, stethoscope, thermometer, personal protective equipment, wheelchairs, autoclaves and other related equipment Also includes standard office equipment such as computer and fax machines.
