Psychologist (Competency Restoration Program)
What are we looking for in a Forensic Psychologist?

Forensic Psychologists work at the Competency Restoration Program, a twenty-four bed secure residential treatment program that serves male adults who have, due to a mental illness, been deemed by the court to be unable to aid and assist in court proceedings regarding current pending criminal charges. The Forensic Psychologist completes various mental health assessments & psychometric testing as required by the court in order to determine an individual’s competency to stand trial or accept criminal responsibility, and to diagnose other mental health conditions that may affect legal proceedings. Excellent communication skills and a desire to maintain knowledge of current laws and acts that affect forensic psychology are necessary for this position.

The goal of the Competency Restoration Program is to offer residents treatment and educational opportunities in order to prepare them to be able to fully assist in their own defense. Services are provided by a multidisciplinary team with an emphasis on collaboration, and the program uses trauma-informed evidence-based practices that have been proven effective for education and treatment.

Forensic Psychologist duties may include:

completing mental health assessments and psychometric tests for program residents, as ordered by the court
following legal requirements|guidelines to evaluate residents for competency to engage with the legal process
preparing written reports for the courts detailing psychological findings, diagnoses, conclusions, and recommendations
formulating treatment plans and providing individual therapy to clients
providing education, consultation, and training to other program staff
consulting with court officials regarding the psychological state of clients
appearing in courts of law as an expert witness, to attest to findings regarding a client’s competency to stand trial, or for other forensic issues

Education|Experience: As required to obtain professional licenses and certifications.

Credentials: Washington State Psychologist License
