Under the general supervision of the Director, the Nurse Manager assumes responsibility for all functions of the Behavioral Health | Psych Unit. In collaboration with the Director and members of the medical staff, this individual is responsible for the ongoing assessment of quality of patient care services provided in the department by all levels of practitioners.
Assumes responsibility for the overall quality of nursing care provided in the assigned unit
Makes decisions regarding activities within the department based on Hospital Administrative Standards, Human Resource Standards, and Department of Nursing Standards in collaboration with the unit Director.
Participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel to maintain standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.
Oversees the operations of the unit to ensure smooth and efficient patient care management. Assures appropriate patient assignments to beds and staff. Completes daily rounding on patients and staff to ensure quality provision of care.
Manages the unit to ensure patient and employee satisfaction while promoting safety and retention. Serves as a real-time resource and assists with clinical expertise for unit staff and physicians for problem-solving on patients, processes, and family issues.
Coordinates quality initiatives and process improvements. Aligns and manages to metrics.
Develops leadership skills among staff including communication, decision-making problem-solving|critical thinking and employee engagement. Leads the development of staff and supports career advancement opportunities. Functions as a role model and encourages staff to participate in their own development.
Responsible for selection, orientation, on-boarding, and retention. Demonstrates leadership through coaching, performance evaluations, corrective actions, and development opportunities to create a culture of learning.
Assists in the development of the operational and capital budget, provides daily operational resource management including staff, supplies, and equipment, and ensures optimal productivity for the department.
Bachelor’s Degree of Nursing required
Master’s Degree of a healthcare related field preferred
Certification | Licensure:
Current Registered Nurse (RN) State Licensure
Basic Life Support (BLS) | Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC) preferred
5-7 year nursing experience in an acute care|clinical environment required
3-5 years behavioral health | psych experience required
1-2 years supervisor|management experience required
Special Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills required due to frequent speaking in person and on the phone
Knowledge of laws, regulations and standards related to hospital wound care
Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment
Must be available to accommodate the needs of the team and be available during emergency situations
