Position Purpose: To provide psychiatric coverage for the Center, provide diagnostic and direct treatment services for Center clients, and to provide medical consultation and supervision to Center therapists. Scope: Supervision/delegation: This position is responsible for orienting and training others and acting in a “lead” or “senior” capacity. May assign and review work of those performing essentially the same or related functions. May occasionally be requested to provide input into decisions regarding hire, discipline, evaluation and termination of peers.

Budgetary Authority: This position has no budgetary authority. Any budgetary recommendations must be reviewed at a higher level.

Decision Making: This position has moderate responsibility for making decisions, which affect a work unit, department. Follows program parameters and procedures and consults with superior on issues not addressed by policy and procedure. Significant autonomy exists for clinical decision making, which may significantly affect center.

Critical Thinking: This position’s responsibilities are substantially complex, often working within broad or vague parameters or only partially relevant guidelines.

Customer Contact/Relationships: The Staff Psychiatrist interacts on a daily basis with patients and family members to provide direct care. The incumbent has contact with law enforcement officials and the court system as regards the care of patients with legal involvements, including appearance at court for commitment hearings. This position has contact by telephone as needed with managed care case managers and reviewing physicians, to certify payment for treatment. Regular contact exists with clinical staff throughout all center programs, to gain collateral information, to coordinate care and to obtain information necessary to certify treatment plans. The Staff Psychiatrist is expected to provide clinical direction and leadership in all programs with which he/she is involved. There is occasional contact with outside physicians for reasons of coordination of care. Minimum Hiring Requirements:

Academic: Licensed as a physician in the state of Indiana M.D. or D.O.

Experience: Two (2) years post-doctoral experience.

Other Requirements: Indiana Physician’s and Indiana and Federal controlled substances licenses.

Preferred Qualifications: Graduate of accredited Psychiatry Residency program, certification in Adult or Child Psychiatry by American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
