POSITION TITLE: Internal Medicine Physician
REPORTS TO: Chief Medical Officer
POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
Scope of position: Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, provide primary and continuing medical care for patients at Health Center Clinics. Take account of physical, emotional and social factors when diagnosing illness and recommending the required treatment. Patients may be referred to hospital or specialists for further assessment and possibly for treatment.
General: •Maintains Texas license, board certification or board eligibility in Family Medicine. •Responds to medical/health problems presented by patients including history taking, diagnosis, investigation, treatment and referral as appropriate; •Maintains confidentiality and impartiality; •Commissions healthcare by liaising with medical professionals in the community and hospitals; •Promotes health education in conjunction with PVHC’s Health Educators •Provides education and care for specific conditions or for certain groups, e.g. diabetes, smoking cessation and hypertension; •Provides required support to Physician Assistants and Advanced Practice Nurses. •Collaborates with behavioral health and substance abuse providers in integrated treatment of patients with such indications. •Meets outcome targets set by the HRSA for specific treatments, such as child immunizations; •Manages resources to service targets as effectively as possible •Uses Electronic Health Record for documentation and to maintain patient centered medical home accreditation •Keeps up to date with medical developments, new drugs, treatments and medications •Observes and assesses the work of trainee practitioners and medical students •Maintains a portfolio of continuing professional development (CPD) activities.
