Summary:
This Nurse Educator will oversee staff development in the hospital’s nursing services. The RN Educator collaborates with the Health Care Team to plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs related to specialized units as assigned. The Educator will coordinate the orientation program of the hospital’s nursing units, as well as provide a variety of educational programs and in-services that assist staff members to acquire and maintain performance competencies.
Lead efforts associated with new knowledge and innovation including interdisciplinary quality initiatives (unit specific quality improvement projects, VBP, Core Measures), evidence-based practice projects and clinical research.
Analyzes the learning needs of healthcare providers and patients; evaluates program outcome effectiveness, and the relevance and appropriateness of educational materials.
Facilitates staff involvement in departmental quality improvement projects; evaluates performance improvement and regulatory requirement data; promotes staff involvement in hospital-wide performance improvement projects.
Fosters the clinical development of staff by functioning as a clinical leader in an advising and guiding role; functions as a nurse advocate and change agent during organizational and committee meetings.
Articulates JCAHO, DOH, Magnet and other regulatory agency standards.
Collaborates with the patient, patient's family and healthcare providers in achieving best practices and optimal patient outcomes; consults with healthcare providers to develop plans of care designed to promote positive patient outcomes.
Assists with the completion of performance appraisals and assesses the achievement of staff competence, and documents the achievement of staff competence.
Promotes the professional development of employees and monitors the professional development of healthcare providers.
 
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
Master’s Degree in Nursing required
 
Certification | Licensure:
Current State Registered Nurse (RN) License
Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
BLS (Basic Life Support) Instructor Preferred
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) Instructor Preferred
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) Instructor Preferred
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) Instructor Preferred
Certification in specialty area of practice highly desired
 
Experience:
3-5 years of RN clinical experience in area of specialty required.
Minimum of 3 years teaching, educator, or CNS experience required.
Previous experience as an Educator|Clinical Nurse Specialist in specialty preferred.
 
Special Skills:
Demonstrates abilities in efficient and effective use of patient care supplies, equipment and mechanical devices.
Demonstrates ability to use standard audiovisual equipment.
Strong communication skills, leadership development skills, word processing (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, required).
