Under general supervision, the Histology Technician is responsible for processing physician orders, ensuring specimen appropriateness, ensuring specimen stability, preparing, embedding, cutting, staining, and mounting tissue|specimen sections to assist pathologists in the diagnosis and|or progression of diseases and cause of death, preparing frozen tissue sections, and other job related support functions as assigned.
Perform established tests and procedures on all age groups under supervision of the shift supervisor, and interpret and report results as accurately as possible to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment.
Performs routine and special procedures in preparation of histology sections for microscopic examination and diagnostic work by the pathologist.
Prepares tissue sections including embedding, cutting and staining with a variety of standard and special stains including working with fresh and|or fixed human tissue and body fluids.
Maintains the continuum of care throughout the process by ensuring timely processing of specimens for examination.
Performs histologic procedures according to established guidelines and protocols. Is able to operate and maintain equipment in the department.

Associates degree or above in a biological or chemical science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited program
Bachelor's Degree preferred

Certification | Licensure:
Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) by the American Association of Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

1-5 years experience in Histology
Acute care experience preferred

Must be confident and articulate in speaking with clients and |or physicians.
Able to work accurately, independently, efficiently under pressure and effectively with others in stressful situations required.
Basic Computer skills.
