Main Function
The Staff Physical Therapist plans, evaluates, and implements individualized treatment programs based on each patient’s unique needs. Working as part of an interdisciplinary rehab team, the therapist helps patients restore function, improve mobility, and achieve their highest level of independence.
Key Responsibilities
Review and evaluate physician referrals and patient needs
Develop and implement personalized physical therapy programs
Utilize various modalities such as exercise, gait training, ultrasound, hot|cold therapy, electrical stimulation, and traction
Instruct patients in the safe use of assistive devices (wheelchairs, canes, braces, etc.)
Monitor patient progress, document treatment plans and results, and adjust care as needed
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members
Maintain compliance with all hospital safety, infection control, and quality improvement standards
Supervise and mentor support staff and assist in department operations
Participate in continuing education and maintain licensure and certifications
Qualifications
Licensed (or eligible for licensure) in Physical Therapy in the State of New York
BLS Certification (required within 90 days of hire)
Experience in a hospital or inpatient care setting preferred
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift at least 30 pounds independently and up to 150 pounds with assistance
Regular standing, bending, and lifting associated with patient care activities
