Blood Bank Supervisor CLS
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Blood Bank Supervisor/Clinical Laboratory Scientist to lead our blood bank department at a busy trauma hospital in Southern California. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in transfusion medicine, a passion for patient care, and a commitment to excellence.
Responsibilities:
•Supervise and manage the daily operations of the blood bank department, including staff scheduling, training, and performance evaluation
•Oversee the maintenance of accurate and complete records for all blood bank activities, including inventory control, testing, and transfusion
•Collaborate with other departments to ensure timely and accurate processing of blood samples and transfusions
•Monitor quality control procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital policies
•Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the safe and effective use of blood products
•Participate in the selection, validation, and implementation of new blood bank technology and equipment
•Provide technical expertise and consultation to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals on transfusion-related issues
•Participate in quality improvement initiatives and data analysis to improve patient outcomes and efficiency
•Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies, including AABB, FDA, and CAP
Qualifications:
•Bachelor's or Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field
•California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License or eligibility for licensure
•ASCP certification in Blood Banking preferred
•Minimum of 5 years of experience in blood bank/transfusion medicine, including at least 2 years of supervisory experience
•Thorough understanding of transfusion medicine, blood banking, and regulatory requirements
•Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of hospital staff
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
•Strong computer skills and experience with laboratory information systems and blood bank software
