Position Overview:
We are seeking an Adult Psychiatrist to support the KernBHRS department, which delivers specialty behavioral health services to Medi-Cal recipients and the uninsured in Kern County. This role includes both clinical and forensic responsibilities within outpatient and acute care settings.
Requirements:
~ Board Certification or Eligibility in General Psychiatry
~ Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN)
~ Active California Medical License in good standing
~ DEA Certification (required for prescribing antipsychotics and long-acting injectables like clozapine)
Schedule:
Full-Time (FTE):
~ Standard 8-hour day shifts
Part-Time (PTE):
~ 6-hour shifts (e.g., 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., excluding breaks)
Compensation & Benefits:
~ $210|hour

Key Responsibilities:
~ Manage and treat adults with treatment-resistant schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and severe depression
~ Prescribe and monitor clozapine therapy, including ANC monitoring and titration
~ Complete capacity assessments for gravely disabled individuals under W&I Code 5150|5250
~ Utilize long-acting injectables (e.g., aripiprazole once-monthly, paliperidone palmitate) to support medication adherence
~ Lead biweekly multidisciplinary team meetings to coordinate care for high utilizers of crisis stabilization services
~ Conduct forensic evaluations and provide testimony for conservatorship hearings under the Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Act
