Position Overview:
Greenlife Healthcare Staffing is seeking a Correctional Psychiatrist to support the KernBHRS department in Kern County, CA. This department provides specialty behavioral health services to Medi-Cal recipients and uninsured populations. The role focuses on mental health support within county detention facilities.
Preferred Certification:
~ Board Certification in Forensic Psychiatry (ABPN strongly recommended but not mandatory)
Requirements:
~ Active California Medical License
~ Board Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN)
~ DEA Certification
Schedule:
Full-Time (FTE):
~ Shift: 8-hour day (e.g., 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) to align with jail intake protocols
~ Daily Activities: 10–12 inmate evaluations, competency assessments, and testimony preparation
On-Call Requirements:
~ Rotation: 1–2 weekends per month for urgent forensic consultations (additional compensation provided)

Key Responsibilities:
~ Conduct competency-to-stand-trial (CST) evaluations under Penal Code 1369
~ Collaborate with public defenders and court-appointed forensic experts
~ Manage opioid withdrawal using buprenorphine|naloxone per CDCR formulary
~ Develop individualized safety plans for inmates at risk of self-harm
~ Coordinate post-release continuity of care with probation officers and FQHCs
~ Ensure medication access post-release, including 30-day antipsychotic supplies
